City Year update

i finally heard from Americorps today, the woman who interviewed me said it'll still be a while til i get an answer, not til june 15th at the earliest. i hate waiting!! i really wanna tell my parents about all this but i don't want to until i know for sure whether i'm accepted or not.

NY quotes

“The firmament that is New York is greater than the sum of its constituent parts. It is a city and it is also a creature, a mentality, a disease, a threat, an electomagnet, a cheap stage set, an accident corridor. It is an implausible character, a monstrous vortex of contradictions, an attraction-repulsion mechanism so extreme no one could have made it up” -Luc Sante

“A city that relentlessly tears itself down and rebuilds itself, embodying all that is new, it nevertheless has the richest historic heritage of any city in the country” - Joseph Schumpter

“The rise of Manhattan is the product of an unformulated theory, Manhattanism, whose program is to exist in a world totally fabricated by man, to live inside fantasy” -Rem Koolhaas

“Is New York the most beautiful city in the world? Is it not far from it. No urban nights are like the nights there. I have looked down across the city from high windows. It is then that the great buildings lose reality and take on magical powers. Squares and squares of flame, set and cut into ether. Here is our poetry, for we have pulled down the stars to our will.”
-Ezra Pound

NY book in the mail

i got my NY book today!! it's sooo pretty and new and shiny.. has that new book smell. it's situations like this when i feel like a huge nerd. but it really is a beautiful book! i just remembered today that it's the same one i checked out from the library a couple years ago when the PBS series about NY first aired, except i only got about 1/3 through. now that i have my own copy i'm on the brink of drooling over it… thanks to shelly and kiersten!

City Year interview

i think my americorps interview will be either tomorrow or wednesday, it's about time. i'm not even nervous any more, i just want to get it over with so i can figure out whether i'll be going to school in the fall and whether i can get a full-time job or not.
