Extensions: another reason to fall in love with Firefox all over again

Firefox Extension: Small add-ons that add new functionality to Firefox. They can add anything from a toolbar button to a completely new feature. They allow the application to be customized to fit the personal needs of each user if they need additional features, while keeping Firefox small to download .

Do you currently use Firefox but have never even heard of Extensions? That’s why I’m posting this, because I don’t want anyone to miss out. I want to highlight this extension that I just downloaded called CustomizeGoogle which “enhances Google search results by adding extra information (like links to Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, etc.) and removing unwanted information (like ads and spam). All features are optional and easily configured from the options menu.” Personally, I think the best part is that it takes off all the “Sponsored Links” and ads that show up in Gmail.

The Return of Cindy Sheehan

By Jeff Paterson, Not in Our Name
August 25, 2005

Cindy Sheehan landed at Waco regional airport yesterday to resume her vigil at the driveway of the Bush vacation ranch in Crawford, Texas. After being greeted by dozens of supporters, and a crush of local and national media, Cindy quickly made her way to Camp Casey. Visibly exhausted from having attended to her mother in California who suffered a stroke, the travel, August heat of Texas, and the emotional impact of returning to Crawford, she had to work hard for even a smile. Under an umbrella of media microphones and cameras, Cindy chose to not speak. Instead she let a newly arrived Gold Star Family talk about their recent loss of their son, and husband, to the Iraq War.

After a brief stop at the original Camp Casey encampment where she had lived in the now infamous ditch during the first week of her vigil, she quickly made her way to the new Camp Casey II complete with a massive tent, another set of hundreds of crosses, and better support services for Cindy and guests.

Later that evening, feeling and looking a lot better, Cindy joined the camp for dinner. After Joan Baez’s now nightly performance, Cindy took the stage. She explained that she was doing this not only for Casey and the hundreds of US troops killed, and those now caught in an illegal war, but also for the tens of thousands of Iraqis who have been killed. She explained that our government told Casey that the Iraqi people would welcome him with candy and roses. Yet he was killed, not by terrorists, but by insurgents fighting an occupation they did not want. She later brought the crowd to tears with her stories of Casey as a child.

Earlier in the day, dozens of veterans and supporters trekked from Camp Casey to Waco and joined local activists in a protest to keep the local VA hospital open. After two years of uncertainty, the hospital is on the chopping block. Some surmise that because the hospital specializes in mental health, that scarce veteran benefit resources will be shifted to VA hospitals that deal with the more visible injuries of the ongoing war without end.

ChristianExodus.org

this is worth sharing… on my way to work this morning i got behind a minivan with a bumper-sticker that said “ChristianExodus.org“… being the inquisitive geek that i am, i cannot resist a new website, i had to check it out. was i in for a treat!

“ChristianExodus.org is coordinating the move of thousands of Christians to South Carolina for the express purpose of re-establishing Godly, constitutional government. It is evident that the U.S. Constitution has been abandoned under our current federal system, and the efforts of Christian activism to restore our Godly republic have proven futile over the past three decades. The time has come for Christians to withdraw our consent from the current federal government and re-introduce the Christian principles once so predominant in America to a sovereign State like South Carolina.”

Isn’t that fun? Wait, wait, it gets better!

The Problem

Christians have actively tried to return the United States to their moral foundations for more than 30 years. We now have a “Christian” president, a “Christian” attorney general, and a Republican Congress and Supreme Court. Yet consider this:

  • Abortion continues against the wishes of many States
  • Of course, abstinence is the only answer
  • Sodomite marriage is now legal in Massachusetts
    • God forbid two people actually love eachother and want equal rights
  • Children who pray in public schools are subject to prosecution
    • However, it is okay for these “Christian” kids to grow up and prosecute anyone they don’t agree with
  • Our schools continue to teach the discredited theory of Darwinian evolution
    • I guess it is kind of silly to think all those scientific pieces of evidence mean something next to a book written before the dawn of scientific discovery and explanation
  • The Bible is still not welcome in schools except under unconstitutional Federal guidelines
    • Do you see the Islamic Qur’an, the Hindu Ramayan, or Buddhist Tipitaka in schools getting unfair air-time?
  • The 10 Commandments remain banned from public display
    • Not public display, display in government buildings, there’s a difference
  • Sodomy is now legal AND celebrated as “diversity” rather than condemned as perversion
    • Gosh, what would you call priests who molest little altar boys?
  • Preaching Christianity will soon be outlawed as “hate speech”
    • That’s silly.

Life is not static, it never has been. I don’t understand how people honestly strive for a world that is based on a refusal to change. What an unhappy and frustrating life that must be…

    buy your own art

i meant to write something the other day about the importance of recognizing your own creativity as art. just because you don’t have anything hanging in a museum, doesn’t mean it’s not art. if you find a way of expressing some beauty that you find in something on this earth, to me that fits the qualifications.

i’m in the process of decorating my new apartment, and in the process of looking at various prints available from places like Target, AllPosters.com, etc. i’ve come to the conclusion that the best thing you can do is use your own stuff. i have plenty of good photographs i’ve taken, why can’t they be hung up on a wall? so i took a couple NYC subway pics and got them enlarged for about ten bucks and now i’ve got something in my living room that i can be sure nobody else has.

i’m not sure why this is satisfying… maybe it’s like the quest for the perfect tattoo that you can be sure doesn’t exist on any other human being. maybe it’s just the eternal quest for originality that we obsess over. why do we obsess over that? some people are worse than others. i, personally, could probably stand to chill out a bit… i think it’s a masochistic thing, every day as more people are born onto this earth, you become an even smaller fraction and are increasingly harder to pick out of a crowd. and yet some people like to try and fight the seven billion to one odds…

more power to you, go for it.

i’ve designed my shirt for Sept. 24th Protest in D.C.

The front is just a simple statement that i thought was appropriate. The back has the Not in Our Name Statement of Conscience along with the event info. on the bottom (“Shut the War Down! Sept. 24 Washington, D.C. White House”)

    michelina’s hates vegetarians.

i had my lunch all microwaved and ready to be devoured. today’s special: michelina’s budget gourmet spaghetti marinara. meat-free i thought, i didn’t see any ground beef in the picture, it looked safe. then just out of paranoia i check the ingredients to find: “beef, beef extract, beef stock, chicken fat.” i don’t even know what the difference is between extract and stock but i don’t want either, and certainly no chicken fat. now i’m hungry and pissed off that i didn’t catch that one at the store.

why does everything have to be beef flavored?? would it kill somebody to make affordable vegetarian frozen meals?? (Linda McCartney frozen meals: good, but not affordable.) i know plenty of lazy veggies who would provide a market… it’s not like it would cost any more to make, you’d actually just be leaving stuff out, so it should be cheaper!
