TronicVision: well, he’s not really your typical Advanced Developer
PeaceChikn: well, nobody’s your typical anything really, right?
TronicVision: Yes.
PeaceChikn: well, fine then, be that way
TronicVision: You’re like, the quintessential Peace Chicken
PeaceChikn: LOL
PeaceChikn: thanks!
TronicVision: when I think of all the Peace Chickens… I mean… sorry but you fit the Peace Chicken stereotype
Thank you Greg, I’m honored.
whoa. did i really type that? yes, i did. O’Reilly Factor is on at 11pm, they’re gonna talk about the full-page ad from the World Can’t Wait (Drive Out the Bush Regime) that ran in the NY Times today. good stuff, got it set on the DVR.
i have now been on the computer for 12 hours today. 8 at work should be enough. i need to get OFFline now. i haven’t felt this addiction for a while, that special burning in the eyes that comes from looking at a screen for way longer than should be allowed. but alas, i have a Strongbow and a Howard Zinn book to read so i must sod off.

- right away i notice that it’s extremely clean. and this is great because that’s the big thing in design these days. keep it simple, keep it clean. which i LOVE because to me it’s the content that defines a site. since it’s not running through Blogger or LiveJournal (or dare i say MySpace) there are no ads, zip, zer0000. what a concept these days, huh? just the stuff you want, and you have total control over it all.
- it’s very easy to update, the interface is simple and intuitive. the text editor blows MySpace out of the water. and updating is sooooo much faster. there’s no re-publishing once you add another post like with Blogger. you just enter it and voila, it’s there.
- with Nearly Free Speech hosting the site, it’s extremely affordable. you pay for the bandwidth you use, which is a great idea and should be the standard. you only need 4 bucks to get a site going and you have mySQL, PHP, etc. thanks to chellinsky for showing me this great hosting service.
so far i’m definitely impressed and glad i finally took the couple days needed to figure it out once and for all, instead of pining after a WordPress site of my own. i’m sure this journey is far from over…

i’ve customized my theme cause i couldn’t stand using a generic layout and i really wanted to figure out how it all worked. what i have may not be that visually exciting but i was going for usability and standards this time. i went against everything i’m used to and hardly used any graphics… only the header image. it was a true test of styling and i’m really happy with how it turned out. i work with style sheets every day at work but i’ve never built one from the beginning, just edited existing ones.
i definitely have to give large credit for my newly discovered WordPress theme understanding to the Urban Giraffe’s “Dissection of a WordPress Theme“. His tutorial was very easy to go through and he strips the theme down to the bone first and then builds it up, he doesn’t try to go into all the craziness right away without the basic knowledge that’s required.
i’m sure i’ll still be changing things every day, but i feel like i have a good foundation for now and i won’t be ashamed to share the URL with people. we shall see…
i’m getting prepped to go over to Metro tonight to meet/watch DJ Nautikat who i may be getting DJ “lessons” from soon. she’s one of very few woman DJs in Columbus, so i’m super duper excited.
i must say CONGRATS to Columbus IndyMedia for getting accepted into the international Indymedia Network, this is awesome news and great for our city. now we just gotta keep building it up and show them how much we can rock. speaking of building up, i’m off to work on some banners for the site now… gotta make sure Basak’s happy. ;-)
p.s. Trillian is my latest favorite program. it combines all your IM screennames into one program, gets rid of those damn AIM ads, tabs your IM windows, etc… check it out, it’s free.
Finally. I finally took the time to learn how to install Word Press. I was so intimidated by mySQL and php that I thought I couldn’t do it. But no, I conquered it, mua ha ha ha! Now I can hopefully bring an end to having one site for my blogs, one site for my pictures, one site for my links, etc.
The other site was good, but not very blog-friendly because of the need to republish every time there was new content. So bear with me while I move everything over to this new site. The URL will still stay the same once the DNS gets switched over.
So reserve your judgements for a bit and stay tuned!
