Why are gas prices so high?

So the giant oil companies can get richer and richer, day by day, gallon by gallon. And here’s the latest proof:

1) Shell has just posted a 36% jump in quarterly profits, earning $6.3 BILLION in the last three months.

2) Meanwhile, Exxon Mobile also just posted a 36% increase in quarterly profits. They made $10.3 BILLION in the past three months.

How long is this going to go on before the people of this country demand an end to the oil corporations gauging us with absolutely no consequences?

Do you really think they’re taking these record high earnings and investing them in renewable energy technology research? Hell no, why in the world would they ever want that?

We sure as hell know our government isn’t going to step up and do anything about this since their campaign funds are the ones who profit from quarters like these. To date Exxon Mobile has given 87% of their political contributions to the Republican party. In 2006, the Oil and Gas industry as a whole has given 83% of their political donations to Republicans. You don’t have to look hard for the connection.
