Columbus Police pepper spray anti-war demonstrators

This past Saturday night, a group of about 100 people rallied at ComFest and marched down High Street voicing their opposition to the Iraq war and occupation. They were just about to end their march and head back into ComFest when some officers of the Columbus Police Dept. decided to demonstrate what a true Police State we are becoming and pepper spray the crowd. The marchers were given less than 20 seconds to get out of the street.

Many people not even taking part in the march were choked up by the canisters of pepper spray. Silly them for thinking they could hang out on the streets and sidewalks we own and not get assaulted by the cops.

This is what democracy looks like? Or this is what a police state looks like?

Those officers had NO reason to use that kind of excessive force. It’s a wonder they didn’t break out the tasers they’re so in love with. Sorry to tell you, CPD, but we have the whole thing on tape. Contrary to what today’s pathetic Dispatch article would have people believe, no “masked protesters” assaulted any cops. This was confirmed by a friend of mine who was there for the whole thing. Don’t you think there would’ve been an arrest if that happened? And the marchers were not given “more than 10 warnings.” Listening to the video you can vaguely hear some warnings in the background, but only the very last warning can you actually understand.

This past weekend was the Pride Parade as well as ComFest, and I, along with other members of Columbus911Truth.org, was busy passing out over 4,000 flyers promoting the Truth Film Festival happening this Saturday at Studio 35. What does this have to do with the ComFest police incident? Plenty. One of the films we’re showing is “America: Freedom to Fascism” and it’s all about the disappearance of the Constitutional Republic that was once our country, and the emergence of a fascist dictatorship. The Police State we saw on Saturday night is a perfect example of this. Not every one of those marchers was guilty of disorderly conduct, only a few were doing stupid things like throwing newspaper boxes into the street, and yet the whole crowd was sprayed? What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

A rising police state is only one of 14 points of Fascism. Wake up America, while there’s still time. Unlike the protesters at ComFest, we’ve been given plenty of warning.

To go along with those 14 points of fascism, here’s another write-up of the incident and 14 minutes of video taken by my friend, Peace General Bruce. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, fast-forward to about 7 minutes into it and you’ll hear the final warning given, see some of the pepper spray being shot at the marchers, and see the coughing and blinded crowd that was left behind.

Please repost this story everywhere you can, don’t let this become yet another story swept under the rug by the Columbus media!

06.27.07 Update: Here’s another tragic example of the consequences of an unchecked Police State, the execution of an Army reserve veteran who just wanted to be left alone before he was shipped off to Iraq. (HT to Tobi.)

Ron Paul. No question.

I could write quite a bit about tonight’s Republican “debate” on CNN, but it’s after midnight and I’d like to get some sleep so I’ll try to contain myself.

Let’s just say that — as expected — the “debate” was basically a joke. It wasn’t even close to being a debate, it was a pathetic and staged Question & Answer session. Complete with planted question-posing-citizens and not even a speck of diversity in the audience. Ten old white men on the stage, watched by a crowd of expressionless white people.

The questions? Irrelevant. Predictable. Same as every election. Buzz words and fear tactics galore. Racist, sexist, ethnocentric cowards preaching their strongly held Pro-Life stances while at the same time emphasizing the need to wage preemptive war on “Islamic Extremists” who “worship death.” They talked about how great Freedom and Liberty is in this country as if our civil liberties still stand fully in tact. They reminded us that we still need to get “them” over there so they don’t get us over here. You remember 9/11 right? Giuliani just wants to make sure you don’t forget. Oh and also don’t forget— every human life is sacred (unless you’re in the Middle East, or gay) and evolution is a lie.

People are still swallowing this stuff? Do they really think that gays openly serving in the military is one of the most important issues facing our country right now? Come on Wolf Blitzer, ask them some real questions.

Okay okay, I said I wouldn’t write that much. Let’s get to the polls. The follow-up polls on CNN.com and MSNBC right now (midnight) show Ron Paul KICKING MAJOR ASS. Yet he continues to be totally ignored by the so-called “political analysts” as has been the case this entire time. You wouldn’t even know he was there tonight if you went only by their commentary. But if you look at the voting results, you’ll get a whole different story.

CNN has Ron Paul winning the debate with 53% of the votes, knowing the most about the issues, having the best one-liner/comeback, and more.

MSNBC has Paul “standing out from the pack” with 63% of the votes (Romney trailing in 2nd place with a lousy 10%.) He is also sweeping the second question, “Showing the most leadership qualities” with 60% (2nd place is Romney with 11%.) But wait, there’s more! Who is the “most convincing candidate” you wonder? Why, that’d be Ron Paul with 62% of the votes! I’m sensing a trend here…

Poor Giuliani is not faring very well at all, despite the pundits’ state-of-denial. I hate to give the general public any credit anymore because I am always left terribly disappointed, but it’s almost as if people are realizing he was in on 9/11 and are finally getting pissed about it. They might even know that Giuliani knew since the ‘93 WTC bombing that the FDNY’s radios didn’t work inside steel buildings, but wanted to uphold his Motorola contract so he kept his mouth shut and 343 firefighters died (as a result of not being able to hear the evacuation orders.) Not to mention that he allowed the largest crime scene in American history to be quickly scooped up and sold as scrap while victims were still being searched for in the rubble and some were eventually turned into pothole filling. But enough about bloody-handed Giuliani.

This country needs Ron Paul NOW. As I said to my friend tonight, imagine his popularity once people realize he’s already taken legislative steps to abolish the Federal Income Tax!
