Ron Paul: “There’s No Difference Between McCain & Obama”

“Their foreign policies are identical, they want more troops in Afghanistan. They want to send more support to Georgia to protect the oil line there. Neither one says bring home the troops from Iraq from the bases — you know the bases are going to stay there, the embassy as big as the Vatican, that’s going to remain. So their foreign policies are exactly the same. They’re both very, very aggressive with Iran. So I would say there’s no difference.”

From RawStory.com:

Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has declined to endorse either John McCain or Barack Obama, and he told CNN’s Kiran Chetry on Thursday that he sees “no difference” between them because both espouse foreign policies that only create more threats to our national interests.

Chetry asked Paul, “Do you think it’s a valid argument … that a John McCain administration would be a four-year extension of the Bush administration?”

“Sure, but I think that’s what’s going to happen with Obama, too,” Paul replied. “There’s no difference.”

“Their foreign policies are identical,” Paul explained. “They want more troops in Afghanistan.

“How would you handle these global threats, then, if it’s not to send our troops there and make sure that we’re protected?” Chetry asked.

“We create the threats!” Paul replied emphatically. “Why are we on the borders of Russia provoking the Russians? I mean, the Georgians initiated the military attack against these enclaves where there were mostly Russians. … It’s the fact that we’re over there that we create these crises.”

“Isn’t it part of our duty, though, to support these fledgling democracies that ask for our help?” asked Chetry.

“No, it’s not our responsibility to do that,” Paul said firmly. “We should endorse the principle but not send troops and money. … Once we get over there, we just aggravate the situation.”

“We bombed Serbia in order for Kosovo to become independent,” Paul concluded. “Now the Russians are doing the same thing. … It’s this total inconsistency.”

Remembering Katie Reider

Katie Reider

“Let this be her legend, let this be her voice,
let this be her vision, let this be her choice.
To remain as we knew her, strong and poised,
as the one we love.

RIP Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, one of Ohio’s great leaders

Yesterday we lost another anti-war, pro-impeachment representative, Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones. A representative of the Cleveland-area, she died of an aneuryism yesterday. She was only 58-years old.

Sep 10, 1949 – August 20, 2008

As always, I will maintain my skepticism of the official story until I hear otherwise. Either way — she will be missed, and my thoughts go out to her family and friends, as well as the constituents she represented.

Here she is in one of her many great moments, objecting to the official certification of the 2004 election:

Impeachment Activist Arrested in L.A. After Confronting Pelosi

An acquaintance of mine, Peter Thottam, a fellow 9/11 Truther and founder of the L.A. Impeachment Center, was arrested last night at a Nancy Pelosi speaking event after he interrupted her talk with this statement:

“I am going to vomit. Who gave you the right to destroy the Constitution and take Impeachment off the table? Our first, second, fourth, fifth and eight Constitutional amendments are being annihilated. 1 million Iraqis are dead. 5,000 Americans including Cindy Sheehan’s son. We’ve spent over 1 trillion taxpayer dollars on a war that should never have been started. Our constitution is being destroyed, Nancy. Bring back our Constitution… Bring it back (being dragged out of the room)…”

Read his full account here.

My hat’s off to you, Peter! This is what we MUST keep doing. Meeting these people everywhere they turn. (By “these people” I mean everyone who has blood on their hands— whether they’re a politician, reporter, media personality, etc.) Bring your cameras. Get video. Get audio. Ask questions. Demand answers and accountability.

I sometimes get crap from people when I show them videos from my friends with We Are Change, many disagree with their methods. But you know what? At this stage in the game, it’s the right thing to do. What are our other options for being heard at this point?

The time for politeness is long gone. While we sit here and patiently raise our hands waiting to ask our questions— i.e. working within the system— people keep dying. Enough is enough. We must BE THE CHANGE we wish to see.

I encourage everyone to find the closest We Are Change chapter and get involved with them. If there isn’t one around you, start one. Keep track of when politicians are in your area, get tickets, and be there waiting. Ask them the hard questions. Get it on tape. Become their new best friend.

For my Ohio readers, here ya go:

Nancy Pelosi admits she HASN’T EVEN READ Impeachment articles

UPDATE: Anthony won 1st place in the Democrats.com Pelosi video contest with this video — WAY TO GO Anthony!!

My friend Anthony of We Are Change Ohio comes through yet again with another fabulous and gutsy video, where Pelosi admits she hasn’t even read the Articles of Impeachment.

Understandable, she’s only had two years

Her response when Anthony mentions all the crimes Bush has committed:

“That’s terrible. Thank you for coming.”

Yep. This is who is in charge of Congress.

Net Neutrality vs. Libertarianism

Last Friday the FCC ruled to punish Comcast for violating Net Neutrality rules and blocking Internet traffic. While I used to be a strong proponent of Net Neutrality, I’m starting to reconsider my position now that I’ve discovered my Libertarian-leanings.

I used to view this issue as one of absolute necessity and importance. Something MUST be done, or else we’re left with this in our future:

No net neutrality

That’s definitely no good.

While part of me is secretly glad that Comcast was punished for their questionable business practices, one must keep in mind that the FCC is a federal agency and Comcast is a publicly-owned company. The U.S. Constitution says nothing about the federal government meddling in the affairs of businesses (it also says nothing about using these companies to spy on Americans, but that’s a whole other matter.)

Of course I don’t agree with their business practices and I’m very glad they aren’t my ISP. However — in a Free Market we wouldn’t need government intervention to deal with this sort of problem, we would simply leave them as a customer. Alas, we quite obviously do NOT live in a Free Market society and telecommunications monopolies are a bitter reality. In my apartment complex, for example, the only cable/internet option is Time Warner. Which means either I pay their outlandish price every month or I get static.

The issue of Net Neutrality is a perfect example of how the Free Market could be used to solve consumer problems instead of asking the government for help. Instead of being forced to put up with whatever sketchy access Comcast decided to give its customers, people could simple choose another ISP. Another bonus– the Free Market doesn’t eat up our tax dollars.
