There’s a good reason they are called al Qaeda in Iraq: They are al Qaeda… in… Iraq.

“See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda.”
- George W. Bush, May 24, 2005

Mr. Bush defended the “War on Terror” yesterday in South Carolina — what an enlightening speech! Did you know that al Qaeda is in Iraq now? And they’re the ones who attacked us on 9/11? And they’re in Iraq?!

Number of times Al Qaeda is mentioned in yesterday’s speech: 95.
Number of times Iraq is mentioned: 104.
A little heavier on the Iraq’s, yes, but he balances them with 9 mentions of September 11th.

“The facts are that al Qaida terrorists killed Americans on 9/11, they’re fighting us in Iraq and across the world, and they are plotting to kill Americans here at home again. Those who justify withdrawing our troops from Iraq by denying the threat of al Qaida in Iraq and its ties to Osama bin Laden ignore the clear consequences of such a retreat. If we were to follow their advice, it would be dangerous for the world — and disastrous for America. We will defeat al Qaida in Iraq.”

Yep.

War Is Peace.

“My fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended… In this battle, we have fought for the cause of liberty, and for the peace of the world. Our nation and our coalition are proud of this accomplishment — yet it is you, the members of the United States military, who achieved it. Your courage — your willingness to face danger for your country and for each other — made this day possible. Because of you, our nation is more secure. Because of you, the tyrant has fallen, and Iraq is free. ”

George W. Bush
May 1st, 2003, aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln

The cost of war

Since May 1st, 2003 we have lost 3,212 more U.S. soldiers. 24,000 have been wounded.

Our nation is more secure.
A tyrant has fallen.
Iraq is free.

War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.

Umm… I— Uhh… I just don’t know.

This is the funniest video of Bush I’ve seen in a while. Not since his Chinese door incident have I laughed so hard. Problem is, I have no idea what question he was asked that provoked such skillful stammering.

Fortunately, I bet my readers will have the answer to this! The only clues I could pick up are that it was a Year-End Press Conference broadcast on C-SPAN2 and it was in the Indian Treaty Room. I have no idea when it was recorded, but I bet that would help figure out the question!

Regardless, it’s still enough to bring tears to your eyes. In a sad, pathetic, “our Founding Fathers would be so pissed” sort of way.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed eh? Okay 9/11 Truth, guess that’s a wrap.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed!

“I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z”

This guy right here.

Turns out I was wrong about that silly 9/11 Truth thing! CNN’s got the whole story, check it out for yourself. Or if you’d rather not read it all, I’ll highlight the good parts:

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has admitted responsibility for the 9/11 attacks and a catalog of other terrorist acts, according to an edited transcript of a tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

“I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z,” Mohammed said Saturday through a U.S. military representative at the American base.

Mohammed takes responsibility for 29 operations, the transcript shows.

I get the feeling that the only source this story is using is an “edited transcript released by the Pentagon.” But it’s from the Pentagon, and they always tell the truth! Plus it was a closed and unconstitutional hearing at Guantanamo with no due and transparent process, now that’s the American Way!

The three-member military panel hearings … were closed to the media and to the detainees’ lawyers because of fears the detainees might divulge classified information, according to Pentagon officials.

Okay, so no lawyer representation and as a detainee he doesn’t get to see the evidence held against him — that’s ok, f–k the Bill of Rights, we’re in a time of war! I’m sure the military panel had the courtesy to speak in Arabic so he could actually understand them. And as we all know, the U.S. does not torture so he must have willingly admitted all of these things. Okay. Fine. Spoon feed it please, I’ll take it!

So now we know:

  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed planted the explosives in all three WTC buildings weeks or months beforehand so they would all fall neatly in their footprint and at freefall speed instead of slowly falling apart and making a god-awful and chaotic mess.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed made sure Bush had the Bin Laden family safely flown out of the country following 9/11, even though the FAA grounded all flights.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the one who placed put-options on United and American airline stocks in the days leading up to the attacks.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told Larry Silverstein he should sign a 99-year lease for the WTC complex and take out a $3.5 billion insurance policy 7 weeks before 9/11.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed called military officials and other federal insiders and warned them not to fly on 9/11.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed succeeded in causing the first-ever collapse due to fire of a steel-framed high-rise building. Three in one day, even, and it hasn’t happened since!
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed helped Hani Hanjour improve his flying skills after learning he couldn’t even handle a Cessna. In the end he was able to complete a 270-degree turn in a Boeing 757 and crash right into the part of the Pentagon that happened to be under renovation.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed figured out how to get a 757 with a wingspan of over 120 ft. into a 16 foot hole in the Pentagon.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told Mr. Bush that he wasn’t a target in the attack so he didn’t have to run off and hide in a bunker when he first heard about it, he could just stay in the classroom and not worry about the safety of the children.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told the FAA, NORAD, and the Pentagon to ignore standard operating procedures and not interfere with the flight paths of the planes, even though any other day they’d have been intercepted within 10 minutes.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed made sure Flight 93 left no wreckage at all and only left a teeny tiny hole in the ground with no forensic evidence for the coroner to inspect.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told officials that even though the WTC wreckage was crime scene evidence, it would be okay to sell it for scrap and not keep it around for investigation.
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had a vested interest in the success of the Project for a New American Century’s empirical military plans and wanted to make billions for Cheney and Halliburton and the entire military industrial complex.

Dang, this guy is GOOD!

2pm Update: This post is currently being featured on BuzzFeed, welcome BuzzFeeders!

Bush submits $2.9 trillion budget

What a surprise. He’s cutting domestic programs (though they like to use the term “savings” instead of “cuts”), giving even more to defense, and claiming this is all in our country’s best interest.

What a perfect example of why I’m fighting this fight, our country is being dismantled and starved, piece by piece, a little more taken every day when people aren’t looking. The success of the 9/11 Truth Movement would change all of this. Suddenly there would be no War on Terror to fund and we could actually focus on our country.

Let me say this again: the War on Terror is a lie and our children will be the ones paying for it. $700 billion more to the military? When our defense budget is already more than the rest of the world’s combined? Who do you think puts that in their pockets? Follow the money. How are people still not making the connection?

WAKE UP AMERICA. Forget Iraq. Forget Afghanistan. The real terrorist is the one who just submitted this budget.

US President George W Bush has submitted a $2.9 trillion budget to Congress including almost $700bn in new military spending.

Much of the money is earmarked for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The 2008 budget also sets out plans to curb domestic spending, including $66bn savings over five years from Medicare.

It is the first budget Mr Bush has presented to a Congress dominated by Democrats, who have been strong critics of his fiscal policies.

“(The budget) reflects the priorities of our country at this moment in its history, protecting the homeland and fighting terrorism.”
- President Bush

If congress did approve the request, the US would have spent $661.9bn on combat in Iraq and Afghanistan since the war began, the administration said.

Another area of spending was oil – with $168m to be spent filling strategic stockpiles of crude.

As well as the cuts to Medicare – the health insurance program for 43 million retirees and disabled people – Mr Bush’s proposed savings also include $12bn from reducing eligibility to Medicaid – a health program for children and the poor.

“My formula for a balanced budget reflects the priorities of our country at this moment in its history, protecting the homeland and fighting terrorism, keeping the economy strong with low taxes and keeping spending under control,” Mr Bush said in a statement.

He predicted a deficit in the year to October 1 2007 of $244bn and said the country could be in a surplus by 2012.

Senate Budget committee chairman Kent Conrad, a Democrat, was sceptical of the projections.

“The president’s budget is filled with debt and deception, disconnected from reality, and continues to move America in the wrong direction,” he said.

“This administration has the worst fiscal record in history and this budget does nothing to change that.”

Now that the budget has been presented, it will be debated by Congress at length, and is likely to face many changes.

This Federal budget covers spending from 1 October 2008; but in many past years, Congress has failed to reach agreement on the budget before that date.

Saddam Hussein to be hanged by Sunday

UPDATE – 12.30.06 4:53PM: Well, it’s officially done. I hang my head in shame for the humanity of this world and the sick and twisted way we go out delivering “justice.” Alternet has posted a good article about how the U.S. created, supplied, and destroyed this man, “an Arab leader who no longer obeyed his orders from Washington”, and how we have gotten away with equal if not worse crimes, and not a single mainstream newspaper will bring this fact to light.
UPDATE – 6:33PM: This article has been published to OpEdNews.com, a progressive and community-driven blog/news site “…like the Drudge Report, but for people who think.”
UPDATE – 5:30PM: It’s official, Saddam will be executed tonight by 10pm EST, 6am in Iraq. So here’s a toast to another unfair trial– brought to you by the flawless American justice system– resulting in a swift and colonial death sentence. And of course, a drink to the logic of killing someone for killing, what a proud day to be an American!

What better way to demonstrate that it’s wrong to kill people than by killing someone?

And what better way to do it than a barbaric hanging? This is 2006, who needs humane methods? Humanity, civilization, the Fifth Commandment– who needs any of those things? It’s not like any of the people involved on either side are religious and would feel compelled to follow their God’s rules…

Call me a bleeding heart liberal, but I am still against the death penalty, even for Saddam Hussein. I just don’t see how this is a tougher punishment than life in prison. He is getting off scot-free! What better way to create a martyr out of him, which will infuriate the Baathists even more, refuel the insurgency, and stir up some badly needed support from the American public for this illegal war. It’s a win-win situation for Mr. Bush. They’re very good at playing dumb, but there’s a reason for everything this Administration does.

“He told them [his brothers] he was happy he would meet his death at the hands of his enemies and be a martyr, not just languish in jail.”
- Badie Aref, one of Saddam’s lawyers

If this is all about war crimes, why isn’t Mr. Bush and his entire Administration being tried? The U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq has resulted in the deaths of anywhere from 100,000-655,000 civilians. THAT is a war crime. Talk about hypocrisy.

Lastly, one cannot ignore the speed of this execution. While the people involved are night and day different in their actions, it’s reminding me all too much of Sophie Scholl and her expedited execution at the hands of the Nazis. Would this happen with an American official? I certainly don’t think so. But then, we are exempt from most rules and traditions because we’re AMERICA damn it!

Impeach Bush. It can be a reality only if you let it.

Yesterday was not only International Human Rights Day, but also Impeachment Day for many political groups across the country, including AfterDowningStreet.org.

The newly elected Democrats in Congress are running away from all mentions of impeachment. Even Pelosi and Brown, 2 of my favorites. This is why I kept my expectations low. They’re looking to be just like every other politician that came before them, more concerned about retaining their power than using it for the right reasons. Fortunately there are more of us than there are them.

It is up to us to SPEAK UP and voice our demands. YELL them, actually. You’re not alone in thinking Bush & Cheney should be impeached for what they’ve done. There are so many of us who want this!! It’s just that the media is doing a good job of hiding this fact. Fortunately this is 2006 and WE are the media too. So tell it like it is!

This short movie is my contribution to the movement, with the goal of raising awareness and forcing people to look at the cumulative effect the Bush Regime has had on our country and the world. We need to revisit all the high crimes this unelected man and his cronies have committed in our name, and the complete lack of accountability or punishment that followed. The Constitution is there for a reason.
