What’s a Peace Chicken?

This website and personal blog is a collection of my beliefs, opinions, interests, and passions. That part is pretty obvious I hope. I happened to give it a silly name that makes sense to me but may take some explanation:

Nuggets, sandwiches, roasts, tenders. Probably the first thing you think of when you think of chickens, right? Here’s another view: chickens are very intelligent birds that have distinct personalities when given the chance to live and thrive in their natural environment. They are also arguably the most inhumanely treated of all animals on earth.

I am not a nugget!

There are over 8 billion chickens on this planet. That’s more chickens than people. They outnumber humans and yet it is they who are subjected to the inhumane treatment, exploitation, and killing. Over 2,300,000 chickens a day are killed for KFC alone. That’s 2.3 MILLION A DAY.

It sounds silly at first, but I think there are a lot of ways a person can relate to the life and plight of chickens. How many groups, societies, and nations are subjected to suffering and death at the hands of a much smaller group?

So that explains the chicken thing. Maybe.

The peace part is much easier to explain.

World peace.

The phrase gets tossed around a lot. But for good reason, we all want it, right? It embodies the ultimate goal of humanity. Peace is the simplest solution to so much suffering. Live and let live. Regardless of race, nationality, gender, religion, species, etc. No one is truly free until all are free.

Inspired by the small, underestimated, but determined and numerous: Peace Chicken was born! …Or should I say hatched?
